TOP is a nonprofit organization that provides services and programs for at-risk children and families. TOP is also a mentoring and tutoring after-school facility for young students and a resource for career and personal development. As a nonprofit organization, Tuscaloosa’s One Place relies on fundraisers like Tuscaloosa Screams to ensure these services continue.

Cody Minor, director of Tuscaloosa Screams, said this year’s theme is
“The Fallout.”

“Going from room to room, you’ll see all sorts of things, from hillbilly survival to mad scientists to terrible experimental mishaps,” Minor said.

The event’s web page described it as “dystopian future rampaged by disease and nuclear war.”

University of Alabama students are participating in the haunted house this year as various creatures.

Rachel Olson, a sophomore criminal justice major, said she is a member of Circle K and works closely with TOP throughout the year.

“Being a part of Tuscaloosa Screams and working with all the other actors is so much fun,” she said. “Not to mention, I really love scaring people.”

Michael Moore, a junior majoring in biology and psychology, said he enjoys being a member of the unsettling cast.

“You get to be creative with your part,” Moore said. “With every group, there’s something different. You can become someone else for the night.”

The event opens each night at 7:00 p.m. and runs until midnight through Nov. 1. The event is located at 1695 McFarland Boulevard in Northport.

For any UA faculty, staff or student, admission is ten dollars with proof of employment or enrollment, such as an ACT card. All other admission is fifteen dollars. All proceeds go to the funding of the services and programs provided by Tuscaloosa’s One Place.
