Former Alabama professor and current Louisiana State University executive vice president and provost Stuart R. Bell has been recommended by UA Chancellor Robert Witt to succeed Judy Bonner as president of the University of Alabama, according to a University release.

Bell taught in the University’s college of engineering from 1986 to 2002, serving as chair of the department of mechanical engineering from 1995 to 2002 and director of the UA Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies from its establishment in 1998 to 2002. Bell left the University in 2002 to take over as dean of the college of engineering at the University of Kansas until 2012, when he was named to his current posts as LSU.

Bell is a three-time graduate of Texas A&M, holding a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering and a master’s degree and doctorate in mechanical engineering.
