UAFC, Blend, Collegiate 100 Black Men to host Black Girls Rise panel discussion

WHAT: “Black Girls Rise” Panel Discussion

WHO: The University of Alabama Feminist Caucus, Blend and Collegiate 100 Black Men will host the panel. Panelists include Amanda Bennett, student activist and #wearedone organizer, Khortlan Patterson, UA Honors College, Dr. Jennifer Jones of the Department of Gender and Race Studies, and Montré Carodine, J.D., professor in the UA School of Law.

WHEN: Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m.

WHERE: Gorgas Library Room 205

WHY: “Black Girls Rise discusses the intersections of gender and race as they affect black women and girls in today’s society,” said Jilisa Milton, programming coordinator for UAFC. “We will touch on history as it informs reality today as well as common trends of discussion in black feminist spaces. The forum will discuss black womanhood, black feminism, misogynoir and many of the misconceptions about black femininity and the black family. This event is another step in promoting intercultural communication on our campus, as we strive to provide a culture of inclusion and understanding. Black Feminism is also a means to explore the meaning of intersectionality, and eliminate myths about feminism as a whole.”
