Every first Thursday of the month, the streets of historic downtown Northport come alive with the Kentuck Art Center’s “Art Night”. This week’s event will feature the Crossroads Arts Alliance, which consists of local artists from Gordo, Alabama.

The completely free event will show art that ranges from letterpress printing and jewelry to gourd art and metalwork. Artists such as Craig Patterson, Missy Miles, Phyllis Cox and more will be presenting their different pieces and creations.

“They use all different mediums,” said Exa Skinner, the Kentuck Art Center program manager.

Kentuck’s smaller Clarke gallery will feature two of its studio artists and their personal exhibitions. Lorrie Lane, an oil artist, will feature her art of “Black Warrior Days”, while mixed media artist, Terrell Taylor, will feature her show “Etruscan Dream”, which documents her time in Italy. All artists will have their studios open so that passers by are able to see their art and even watch them create new pieces.

Over 200 artists from all from over the country are featured in the Kentuck gallery shop, which is open until 8 p.m. during Art Night. Live music by local talents Michael Battito and Brantley Charles will enliven the crowd in the Courtyard of Wonders as people admire the works of art and handmade crafts.

“There are so many different things in this show that everyone can enjoy themselves,” Skinner said.

There will also be a few pop-up shops in the courtyard with Left Hand Soap Company, Silver Spoon Jewelry, and HipPies homemade pies making appearances. Three of Kentuck’s Clay Co-op artists will be doing wheel throwing demonstrations for anyone to come watch.

Food and treats will be available from Mary’s Cakes and Pastries and the new food truck, Local Roots. The April Art Night will be open from 5 to 8 p.m. this Thursday night April 7 in Northport and is open to all ages.
