The University of Alabama’s Computer-Based Honors Program will change its name next year to the Catherine J. Randall Research Scholars Program.

“It is entirely fitting that this program be named after someone whose work has allowed it to flourish and whose passion not only for this program, but this University, has left an indelible mark on so many of our students,” President Stuart Bell said to the Tuscaloosa News.

After her time as an undergraduate student in the program, Catherine Randall stayed at the University to earn two masters and two doctoral degrees. From 1980 to 2004, she served as the director of the computer-based honors program.

The program, located within the Honors College, allows students to utilize the power of computers to conduct research as undergraduates. According to the Tuscaloosa News, the program’s name change came from students who desired to honor Randall and change what they believed to be misleading title that makes people think CBH is an online program.
