Following the release of a year-old Facebook video by the conservative group called Reagan Battalion where he made controversial comments about underage sexual relationships, right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos resigned his position as senior editor of Breitbart.

Yiannopoulos defended his words after the video was reposted this past weekend. He claims the video – in which he condoned pedophilia – had been deceptively edited, that his sarcasm was being taken too seriously and that he was also a victim of sexual abuse as a child.

On Monday, the Conservative Political Action Conference cancelled Yiannopoulos’s keynote speech and his book deal with Simon & Schuster was cancelled. Yiannopoulos said that his book, “Dangerous,” was going to be picked up by one of the other interested publishing companies.

After giving his first ever public apology, Yiannopolous announced his resignation from Breitbart Tuesday. He also said that he would soon be going on a speaking tour and starting up his own media company.

Yiannopoulos spoke at The University of Alabama last fall by invitation of the College Republicans.
