The University of Alabama is celebrating Cuba Week. The week began with an address from President Stuart Bell and other panelists discussing the University’s relationship with Cuba, and will continue throughout the week with more events.

WHO: Events will feature a range of speakers from the College of Arts and Sciences paired with presentations from Cuban speakers and moderators. There will also be over 20 Cuban artists, doctors, and scholars giving lectures and showcasing their work. 

Events are also open to all students.

WHAT: Lectures on issues related to Cuban health, culture and relations will take place daily. The week will host a showing for the film “Y Sin Embargo,” an ensemble of Cuban musicians and an art exhibit titled  “Los Grabados de La Habana.”

WHEN: Oct. 24-27.
“Y Sin Embargo” will be shown Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The concert featuring Cuban artists will be held Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
The artists feature in “Los Grabados de La Habana” will be at the exhibit Thursday from 6-9 p.m.

WHERE: 
Room 30 in ten Hoor hall will host a showing of “Y Sin Embargo”
The concert will be held in Frank Moody Music Building Concert Hall.
Tuscaloosa’s Harrison Galleries will showcase the art exhibit and artists. 

WHY: According to its website, the University’s Center for Cuba Collaboration and Scholarship was opened in 2015 and “serves as the latest illustration of a long-standing interest in the Latin America both at the University, where it has been a program of study for more than 45 years, and throughout the state.”

Cuba week has been hosted intermittently by the University since 2003.
