What: A stress-relieving yoga class

Who: Open to all students, hosted by University Libraries

When: Monday, Sept. 11, 12:15-12:45 p.m.

This is a weekly event.

Where: Gorgas Library, room 205

Why: Millie Jackson, senior associate dean of the library administration and certified restorative yoga teacher leads the sessions. Jackson said that as the school year starts to pick up, it’s important for students to take time for themselves.

“[Yoga] allows students to release any tension from their bodies, remain in the moment and relax,” Jackson said. “Yoga is a practice that people don’t get a chance to do very often and something that people need to do to slow down and rest.”

The yoga sessions will last 30 minutes, and three 75 minute sessions will be held throughout the semester as well.

“Restorative Yoga starts with breathing exercises and stretching,” Jackson said. “For the 75 minute sessions, students stay in the same pose for about 10 to 20 minutes, but for the lunchtime sessions, they will stay in the same position for only five to seven minutes.”

This is the first semester that Gorgas has hosted these yoga sessions, but Jackson has taught yoga for several years.
