WHAT:  The Great Light Bulb Swap is an opportunity for student and faculty to swap out their old fluorescent or incandescent  light bulbs for new, more energy efficient LED bulbs.

LED bulbs uses less wattage and have a longer lifespan compared to older light bulbs.

WHO: The University of Alabama Department of Energy Management and the Alabama Power Company

This event is open to any University students living on campus in residential housing and campus faculty and staff.

WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 21 from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

WHERE: Ferguson Student Center Plaza

WHY: “The UA Facilities & Grounds Department is continuously searching for new technology and strategies that will help us reduce energy consumption on campus,”  said Colonel Duane Lamb, Associate VP of Facilities & Grounds. “This project, which allows our campus community to exchange their incandescent bulbs for LED bulbs, reduces energy consumption by 85%.”

Participants are reminded that an ACT card is required for the swap and each person is limited to two LED bulbs.

“Participation by students, faculty, and staff, in our campus energy conservation project is key to our continued success of leading the nation as one of the top energy efficient campuses,” said Lamb.
