Alabama gymnastics team moves up to No. 4

The Alabama gymnastics team moved up to No. 4 in the national rankings after beating Auburn with a season-best score of 197.650 last Friday. In addition posting its best overall score of the season, the Crimson Tide also tallied its best vault, balance beam and floor exercise scores of 2013.

Florida remained at the top spot this week after beating Georgia on the road last week. Oklahoma and Michigan took the second and third spots, while UCLA dropped to No. 5. The Tide will close out its regular season home slate with both the Sooners and the Bruins.

Alabama is fourth on the vault, fifth on the uneven bars and balance beam and sixth on the floor exercise.

Junior Kim Jacob is ranked 14th in the all-around, third on the floor exercise and 12th on the balance beam. Jacob posted a 9.900 on both the floor exercise and balance beam against Auburn. Junior Diandra Milliner is 12th, and senior Marissa Gutierrez is 23rd on the vault this week after both scored 9.925 to share top honors against Auburn.

Junior Sarah DeMeo retains her seventh place ranking in the uneven bars, with seniors Ashley Priess and Ashley Sledge checking in at 16th and 19th, respectively. Sledge also moved up to No. 22 in the floor exercise after tying her personal best with a 9.900 against Auburn.

Alabama travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the No. 19 Arkansas Razorbacks on Friday at 7 p.m. It will be Alabama’s fourth away meet of the season and seventh consecutive meet against a Southeastern Conference opponent.

After taking on Arkansas on the road this Friday, the Tide will return home to face fifth-ranked UCLA.
