News reporters cover a broad range of campus topics, including student life and administrative affairs. They also cover issues in the city of Tuscaloosa and localize state and national issues to be relevant to UA students. News reporters will take on “beats” in areas such as crime, Greek life, historical features, environmentalism, administration and more. No prior journalism experience is required to become a CW reporter. However, most new staff will start out as unpaid contributing writers.

Designers will be tasked with laying out the pages of The Crimson White on a day-to-day basis, along with laying out various CW magazines and special sections such as Game Day. Designers should be creative, technically proficient and efficient at their jobs.

Regular columnists will offer interesting and dynamic perspectives on events happening at UA, in Tuscaloosa, in Alabama, in the United States or in the world. If columnists choose to write about things unrelated to UA or Tuscaloosa, they must ensure that the topic will be relevant to students. They will write for the opinions page either weekly or bi-weekly. Columnists should have strong voices, excellent writing and research skills and the ability to craft persuasive and logical arguments.

The graphics staff will work with the design editor and the managing editor to develop graphical elements for the print edition and website. Primarily the graphics staff will work to create elements for front-page centerpiece projects, The Scene each Thursday, teasers, and alternative story forms.
