“This issue is overlooked sometimes because most people think slavery is something of the past,” Snead said. “Our mission is to bring awareness to the fact that there are millions of people in the world who are enslaved and we want to do everything we can bring awareness to our cause.”

AIJM holds campus-wide fundraisers and events to help raise money and awareness for modern-day slavery.

For one of the organization’s upcoming fundraisers, singer-songwriter Steve Moakler will hold a free concert Friday at the Alpha Gamma Delta house to help bring awareness to
AIJM’s mission.

All the money from these events is sent to the International Justice Mission, a global team of lawyers, investigators and community activists working to protect the poor from violence.

Snead, a junior majoring in food and nutrition, said the International Justice Mission handles all the field work in countries severely affected by slavery.

Mary Kathryn Sanders, a freshman majoring in financial planning, said she is interested in getting involved with the group because of its potential to
help others.

“I think their mission is really great,” she said, “It gives students a way to get involved with something that could really make a difference.”
