Warming creams offer creative way to beat the cold this winter

Warming creams offer creative way to beat the cold this winter

Runners and cyclists have a great solution to the cold:
warming embrocations. These creams are applied to the legs to hold in heat and provide a warming effect. Different strength embrocations are sold for varying
temperature ranges. They can also be rated simply for mild, hot and extreme levels. New users are advised to start with a lower strength cream to make sure it
does not cause adverse effects. Products labeled “warming embrocations” tend to have lower heat levels that are more suited for the fashion-user.

Beyond the warming sensation, embrocations also act to increase blood flow and protect legs from the elements. Capsicum, the active ingredient, is found in hot peppers. It stimulates nerve endings and works to direct blood to the area. Normally, the body would draw blood away from the limbs in reaction to cold weather. This is significant to athletes looking for a faster warm-up, increased oxygenation and potential for higher energy output. Butter
embrocations generally leave a visible protective layer, especially helpful on windy days, but fashion consumers can search for creams in easy-to-dispense tubes which will massage fully into the skin, leaving little to
no residue.

Though embrocation creams are not commonly carried in nearby stores, jars range from $10-20 online and should last the whole season. Mad Alchemy offers a Heat Warming Embrocation rated “mellow” for $26 including shipping. Carefully read the product descriptions or try speaking to a sales associate to ensure purchase of a mild cream for first-timers. Whether running in the cold or hoping to look your best on Saturday night, an embrocation is a cold weather solution worth trying
this winter.
