Three Crimson Tide running backs found the end zone against Charleston Southern in Saturday’s 56-6 victory.

Two of those running backs, freshmen Damien Harris and Bo Scarbrough, recorded their first career touchdowns in the win. After the game coach Nick Saban said it was important for those guys to get carries.

“We wanted to get those guys in the game and get them to play as early and as often as we could,” coach Nick Saban said. “I think it was more important to get the other guys the experience.”

Derrick Henry, who also found the end zone twice himself, said he enjoyed seeing his teammates score.

“They prepared right the whole week so I was excited to see them get out there and have fun,” Henry said. “They practice really hard so it didn’t surprise me to see them go out there and do what they do.”

One running back that didn’t get a carry was injured senior Kenyan Drake. On Monday he returned for individual drills during the media viewing period.

Practice Notes:

  • The team practiced inside during the media viewing period.
  • Running backs, such as Henry and Drake, ran drills designed to help them improve and maintain their quick footwork. The backs also carried two footballs which the team often does in drills to help reduce fumbles.
  • The scout team running backs wore No. 29 jerseys to help the team prepare for Auburn’s Jovon Robinson. He is currently averaging 6.1 yards per carry for the Tigers.
  • Quarterbacks Jake Coker, Cooper Bateman and others spent the viewing period throwing passes to tight ends, such as O.J. Howard, and receivers, such as ArDarius Stewart.
