With Valentines Day among us couples all over are beginning to prepare for a day in which they spoil their significant other. Countless bags of candy, flowers, giant teddy bears, and the classic dinner and movie will be seen all over social media for those who will be single on this holiday to enjoy. Yet, is being single on Valentines Day such a unfortunate event as many make it out to be?

Not every one is lucky enough to stumble upon a relationship. For those that find themselves single on Valentine’s Day, do not be blinded by everything you perceive you are missing out on. In reality your situation very well could be argued as the better of the two. Being single on this holiday has its advantages.

Valentines Day is a staple in relationships where you validate your love for someone by expressing your feelings through various gifts. Being single allows you to focus on yourself. You can devote a whole day to pampering and spoiling yourself, without having to worry about anyone else. This may seem selfish, but expecting to receive gifts from your significant other just because of the day doesn’t come off as philanthropic, either.

Money is going to be spent, but how much depends on the situation you find yourself in. When in a relationship, not only do you have to buy gifts, but you have added pressure to buy the correct gifts that please your significant other. Gifts cost money, lots of money. The day single will be less expensive than the day in a relationship.

For those that are single, that money people are spending on lingerie and jewelry conveniently stays in the bank. Money saved allows you to go above and beyond for yourself, whether you save or spend it. Many find themselves tight on cash as it is. This money going towards flowers that will be dead in a few days can go towards bills instead.

Although Valentine’s Day is not a national holiday, everyone knows exactly when it is and celebrates is as if it was on the same level as Christmas. Couples plan weeks in advance to get the right reservations, correct sizes, and make sure everything is in order for the big night. The day itself happens to fall on the big night of the National Basketball Associations All-Star weekend. Usually on this day restaurants have been booked well in advance, but many couples all over will be having conversations on going out or staying in for the game.

If you are single, there is no planning ahead needed. You are able to do whatever you want without having to discuss anything. No worries on having to watch what you eat or be mindful of your surroundings, either. With many of the restaurants booked up, this means your local fast food places or take-out should be in the clear. You can eat and be back in time to enjoy watch the NBA’s best compete against each other.

Being single on this sacred day you may find yourself scrolling through endless love infested social media posts, but realize you do not have to deal with the many challenges those in relationships have on Valentines Day.
