Patrick Murphy gets 900th win at Alabama with 10-5 win over Maryland

Less than two years since he earned his 800th win as head coach of Alabama, Patrick Murphy reached the next milestone.

No. 5 Alabama softball’s 10-5 win over Maryland on Sunday was his 900th win at Alabama. His current record is 900-242 (.788) in his 18th year as head coach.

Madi Moore, a left-handed freshman, earned the win and is a perfect 5-0 on the season. She pitched four innings before Osorio took over in relief for the final three innings, earning her second save of the season.

Alabama knocked together nine hits in the win. Maryland had 12 hits but left 10 on base.

Saturday’s slate

Not even a week Alabama combined for a no-hitter against UAB, sophomore right-hander Alexis Osorio threw one of her own Saturday. To top it all off, it was her first start of the season after she sprained her ankle a few weeks back.

She was nearly perfect. The only base runner was a hit batter to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. She retired the next six batters in the 7-0 win over Mercer.

In the second game Saturday, junior right-hander Sydney Littlejohn pitched six innings in a mercy-rule win.

Chandler Dare and Leona Lafaele had three hits apiece in the 9-0 win over Georgia State. Peyton Grantham collected two hits. She and Lafaele each hit a home run.

The Crimson Tide (10-1) hosts Troy (7-3) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. for its home opener.
