After a comeback win in game one, the Alabama baseball team was able to sweep a doubleheader against Alcorn State Tuesday night. Alabama won 8-0 after collecting 12 hits in the seven-inning game.

“You have an opportunity to gain some momentum from that,” coach Mitch Gaspard said. “Particularly after game one that was an ugly game, but you got the win and then you have a nice, clean one.”

The Crimson Tide went to work early on offense, scoring three runs in the first inning, but the offense did not stop there as it continued to score in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth inning.

Chandler Avant had a nice game, hitting 3 for 4 with a double and a RBI. He finished 6 for 9 in the series with three RBIs. Cobie Vance hit well also going 3 for 5 with four RBIs, two walks and one hit by pitch in the two games.

“It was nice seeing everybody come together and get hits all together,” Avant said. “Most of the time it’s a couple of guys that are hot and everybody else is trying to catch up, but if we can keep it going like we did today it is going to be a fun rest of the year.”

Jake Hubbard made the start in the second game and pitched five scoreless frames for his first win of the season. Hubbard struck out four and only gave up two hits.

“I knew I just had to give it all I had today,” Hubbard said. “I’ve been working on some arm slots. I haven’t been able to throw live in a about a month, and I knew I would have to go for a good while to get used to my new arm slots.”

Alabama will travel to Kentucky this weekend for a three-game series.
