Open since January 2016, Miss Dots is a hidden gem in Tuscaloosa. Owned by Tyre Stuckey and John Cassimus, the creators behind Zoe’s Kitchen and Maki Fresh, Miss Dots is a fresh new restaurant that’s becoming more and more popular.

Dawson McGough, manager of the Birmingham location, explained what Miss Dots has brought to Downtown Tuscaloosa.

“Tuscaloosa is a growing community,” he said. “Not only does the city offer the population of thousands of students year round, but new businesses and attractions are bringing more and more residents to the city, allowing for new businesses like ourselves to thrive in an area that is dense in a wide array of population that downtown has to offer.”

Miss Dots’ menu has something different than most chicken places in Tuscaloosa fail to offer. Homemade southern sides and herbs are grown in the garden right out front of the restaurant.

“Miss Dots is more than fried chicken,” McGough said. “All of our recipes are made from scratch, with only the freshest of ingredients. Heck, even our Flat-topped baked chicken is seasoned with fresh Thyme and Rosemary that we grow right here by our front doors.” 

The menu is full of different plates and sandwiches, recently adding two new popular sandwiches. One sandwich is boneless chicken breast tossed in a homemade Tennessee hot sauce made up of honey and seven secret spices with ranch, the other is piled high with mac and cheese and ranch. Collard greens, squash casserole, mac and cheese, fresh cut fruit, and scalloped potatoes are just a few of the side options offered. Brussel slaw and summer slaw are also popular sides, and many customers enjoy the slaws on a sandwich.

“There’s nothing like Miss Dots,” McGough said. “Where else are you going to dine where you will be welcomed like you are part of the Miss Dots’ family, and served southern classics just like your aunt Wanda used to make?”

Miss Dots’ menu is different than any other restaurant located in downtown, not only because of the amount of chicken options, but their alcohol options as well. With Happy Hour everyday, four beers on tap, wine, and their signature Bloody Mary’s, Margaritas, Screwdrivers, and Jib Room Punch, Miss Dots serves up a lot of options.

“It’s a place where the community can come together and not only enjoy great food prepared by great people, but you can enjoy that great food in an atmosphere thats inviting you to stay,” McGough said. “Bring the family, bring the friends, it doesn’t matter, it’s not only about having an incredible meal, it’s about feeling at home.
