Summer concert rundown for Birmingham and Atlanta

There are a few concerts coming to the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater this summer, but if you’re looking to broaden your music experience, more shows are coming to Atlanta and Birmingham. Here’s a rundown of some of the biggest names coming this summer.  

Chance the Rapper – June 11

As part of his current tour, Chance the Rapper will stop at the Lakewood Amphitheater in Atlanta on June 11. His latest mixtape, “Coloring Book” was released in May 2016 and won Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammy Awards. He also took home the Best New Artist award that night. Tickets for the June show start at around $74 dollars and can be purchased at livenation.com. The show will start at 8 p.m.

Journey – July 8 

Journey will perform at the Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Pelham, Alabama on July 8. The American rock band, founded in the early 1970s, is most famous for their hit “Don’t Stop Believin’” from 1981. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets start at $49. Tickets can be purchased at livenation.com.

Idina Menzel – August 2 

The BJCC will host actress, singer and Broadway star Idina Menzel on August 2. Menzel is most well known for her roles on Broadway like Maureen Johnson in “Rent” and Elphaba in “Wicked,” which won her a Tony Award for Best Actress. She’s also known for voicing Queen Elsa in Disney’s “Frozen.” Tickets for her August show start at $50 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com. The show is scheduled to start at 8 p.m.

Mary J. Blige – August 8

Singer and music producer Mary J. Blige will perform in Atlanta on August 8 at the Wolf Creek Amphitheater as part of her “Strength of a Woman” tour. Blige has won nine Grammy awards over the course of her career which started in 1989. Tickets for the show start at $60 and can be purchased at ticketmaster.com. The show is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

John Mayer – August 10 

American singer-songwriter John Mayer will be at Atlanta’s Lakewood Amphitheater on August 10. Mayer has won seven Grammy awards over the course of his career including ones for his songs “Daughters,” “Say,” “Gravity” and “Waiting on the World to Change.” The show is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for his August show start at $41 and can be purchased at livenation.com.
