Alabama women's tennis loses in Doubles Championship Match

The Alabama women’s tennis team finished its 2017 tennis campaign with a loss in the NCAA Doubles National Championship on Monday. The team of Erin Routliffe and Maddie Pothoff faced Francesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase from Ohio State.

Alabama started off with a 3-1 lead in the first set. The Ohio State duo took four of the next six games to tie it at 5-5. With the score tied at 6-6 the two teams traded points, until Alabama won the tie breaker to win the set 7-6.

The Ohio State duo took the first two games of the second set. However, the Alabama pair tied the game at 2-2 after winning the next two sets. After the two teams traded sets again, Ohio State took the next two games to lead 5-3. From there the Buckeyes took the second set 6-4.

The Buckeyes took a 3-0 lead in the tiebreaker set, on the way to winning the set 10-7 and a National Championship.

The duo of Routliffe and Pothoff came into the match as the No. 5 ranked doubles team in the country. Routliffe finishes her Alabama career as a two-time doubles champion.
