It’s show time again at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, and first up on the list of performances is Mary Mary with, special guest, Tasha Cobbs.

The performance will take place on April 8 at 7 p.m. Along with Mary Mary and Tasha Cobbs, Christian bands Blest by Four and Meashell Lee and the Anointed Ones will perform.

Mary Mary is a Christian band composed of two sisters, Erica and Tina Campbell. Their songs combine the sounds of R&B, hip-hop, dance, pop, gospel and jazz. Some know the duo by their chart-topping single “Shackles (Praise You).”

“‘Shackles’ is my favorite of all of their songs,” Zachary Lee, a fan of the duo, said. “I enjoy ‘Shackles,’ because not only are you getting to worship God. There is a rhythm and beat to it as well.”

The sisters described their mission as sending encouraging messages through music and words that everyone can relate to.

“It’s about making music that touches both adults and young people,” Erica Campbell said.

Tina Campbell said the duo likes to reach their audience in their own particular way.

“It’s about spreading good news for the world but doing it in the Mary Mary way: banging beats and melodies, intertwined voices and messages of hope,” she said.

The banging beats and melodies incorporated into their songs play a part in what draw fans to their music.

“I like their music, because it is not the everyday slow Christian music,” Lee said. “It has a nice beat to it.”

The duo has also won many awards for their talent. Throughout their career, the sisters have won three Grammy Awards, two American Music Awards, an NAACP Image Award and a BET Award.

Along with Mary Mary, Cobbs is also a Christian artist. Some may know her by her chart-topper “Break Every Chain.” This hit was Billboard’s number one song for a total of 12 weeks.

Cobbs’ first album, “Grace,” was produced in 2012, and it made its way on to Billboard’s Top 10 Gospel Albums chart for a year. Throughout her career, she has been awarded a Grammy Award, three Stellar Awards, and three Dove Awards.
