A Tennessee teacher believed to have abducted his student had researched teen marriage before the alleged abduction, authorities have reported.

“That is an issue that we have some major concerns of because it might potentially speak to his intentions for her,” said Josh DeVine, a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman.

An Amber Alert was issued for Elizabeth Thomas, 15, the day after she was reported missing on March 14. She is believed to have been abducted by her forensics teacher, Tad Cummins, 50, who was allegedly seen kissing her in January.

Thomas is 5 feet 5 inches, 120 pounds, has blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen in Columbia, Tennessee in black leggings and a flannel shirt. Authorities believe she is in extreme danger.

Cummins is 6 feet tall, weighs 200 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

The two are believed to be driving a silver Nissan Rogue with the license plate #976ZPT.

By the afternoon of March 13, authorities determined Thomas may have been 80 miles south in Decatur, Alabama, but now that more than a week has passed, they are looking into the possibility of the two being outside of the United States.

Anyone with information regarding the case should call the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 800-824-3463.
