Playoff Committee places Crimson Tide as top team in initial rankings

The first rankings of the season from the College Football Playoff Committee came out on Tuesday night and two SEC teams made it in the top four.

Alabama is ranked No. 1, just like the team has been in the AP Poll all year. The team the Crimson Tide would play if the season ended today would be Texas A&M, a rematch of the last time Alabama took the field.

The Crimson Tide defeated the Aggies by 19 points in that meeting, and kept constant pressure on Trevor Knight all game.

On the other side of the bracket Clemson, ranked at No. 2, would be playing No. 3 Michigan. Both teams are undefeated and are leading their respective conferences.

Clemson has defeated Louisville and Florida State already this year in close games. Michigan has been scoring almost seemingly at will this year except for the Wisconsin game.

The first teams out are Washington at No. 5 and Ohio State at No. 6. Washington is the only undefeated team in the PAC 12.

No. 7 Ohio State’s only loss was to Penn State, on the road. Ohio State still has to play Michigan, Nebraska and Michigan at home this year.

Alabama next takes on No. 13 LSU on the road on Saturday.
