UA to offer free vaccinations to faculty, staff, retirees

This Wednesday, Oct. 5, the University Medical Center will partner with the Capstone College of Nursing and Winn Dixie to administer flu shots, and shingle vaccinations for those over 50, to over 1,500 expected UA employees, family and retirees. The fair will beĀ attended by almost one hundred sponsors and partners of the University, including Blue Cross/ Blue Shield and United Healthcare.Ā 

The health fair will also feature a ā€œHands on Healthā€ series of instructional events starting at 8 a.m., including gentle yoga, CPR training and weather safety tips.

WHO: University Medical Center staff along with Capstone College of Nursing students

WHAT: A health fair providing free flu shots and shingles vaccinations, as well as information on health services in the Tuscaloosa area. In addition, the following free screenings are offered:
1. Hearing test by UA Speech & Hearing Center in the ā€œHear Here Alabamaā€ bus
2. Blood pressure check from MedCenter Urgent Care.
3. Vision screening from Wal-Mart Vision Center, Northport.
4. All benefit-eligible employees can join the WellBAMA wellness program.

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 5, from 7:30 a.m. ā€“ 1 p.m.Ā 

WHERE: Coleman Coliseum

ā€œThe ultimate goal of the health fair is to help employees and their families enjoy a healthier, happier lifestyle,” saidĀ Erica Shumate, senior insurance analyst of the Healthcare Insurance Administration.
