In honor of Sexual Health Awareness Month, The Crimson White will feature stories on sexual health throughout the week. To kick it off, here is a list of some of the SOURCE-recognized clubs on campus that promote sexual health.

Bama Students for Life (BSFL) – This pro-life organization has a focus on reproductive health. According to their SOURCE page, they work to promote and foster a culture of life on campus and beyond, “so that one day our world will respect the dignity of every human life.”

The Feminist Caucus – The Feminist Caucus provides a space for students to discuss all things feminist, with a focus on sexual health for women. The group is formally affiliated with both the Feminist Majority Foundation and Planned Parenthood, a national organization dedicated to women’s reproductive health issues.

Not On My Campus – Not On My Campus is a nationwide student-led movement that works to end the silence surrounding sexual assault and to create a safe environment on campus.

“We have experienced either directly or indirectly, the devastating effects of sexual assault on our campus and realize it is our responsibility to step up and take responsibility for our student culture,” their Source page said.

Spectrum– A club designed to provide support for the LGBTQ+ community, Spectrum works to raise awareness for a number of LGBTQ+ issues, including sexual health in the LGBTQ+ community. Though Spectrum focuses specifically on the LGBTQ+ experience, it is open to LGBTQ+ allies as well.

Unite for Reproductive & Gender Equity UA (URGE)- URGE seeks to advocate for sexual and reproductive justice on the local, state and national levels. URGE focuses on promoting safe, healthy sexual activity among all people, specifically through promoting sex positivity, advocating for comprehensive, medically-accurate sexual and reproductive education free from heterosexism, and advocating for healthy and affordable methods of contraception, among other methods, according to its website.
