Senior Jonathan Hardee capped a tremendous day for the Alabama men’s golf program on Saturday at the Country Club of Columbus.

Hardee captured the 88th Southeastern Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Columbus this past Saturday. He finished the day at 65, 5-under par, to close the event with a four-day total score of 18-under par or 262 (65-66-66-65).

“It felt great,” Hardee said. “My best friend was on the bag and I had good teammates surrounding me and had a fun week. Winning made it better.”

Along with winning the Southeastern Amateur Championship, he finished 19th overall at last month’s NCAA Championships.

At the 2017 NCAA Men’s Golf National Championships, the Crimson Tide finished 17th in the country with a three-day total of 9-over par 873, falling behind two strokes of a top 15 finish and a spot in the final round of stroke play at this year’s championship.

Hardee focused on strengthening the weaker parts of his game, even when he struggled overall.

“Staying focused on my putting in the past several months has been huge, even though I have bad days with hitting,” Hardee said. “Also, my mental game. I try to have a good attitude about what I’m doing and make sure I’m enjoying it.”

Hardee displayed his individual prowess this past season along with more rising players, such as Josh Sedeno.

Sedeno was named SEC freshman of the week on April 5 and finished second place at the Mason Rudolph Championship.

The Crimson Tide is preparing for a dominant 2017-2018 season.

“I am very proud of how our team finished this season,” Coach Jay Seawell said. “We are considered the top recruiting class and are going to work on our strategy as a team and individually. We are poised to be the best team in the country and that’s who we need to be.”
