Rod Stewart and Cyndi Lauper to perform at Tuscaloosa Amphitheater

Rod Stewart and special guest Cyndi Lauper will take the stage this Sunday at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater, rain or shine. Gates will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will start at 7:30. There will be a clear-bag policy for anyone attending. 

Stewart and Lauper are stopping in Tuscaloosa as part of their 18-city joint summer tour.  The pair will perform some of their classic hits as well as music from their newer albums, “Another Country” for Stewart and “Detour” for Lauper. 

Stewart, most well known for songs like “Forever Young” and “Maggie May,” began his career began in the 60s. Since then, he’s sold over 100 million records worldwide, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and was knighted by the Queen of England in 2016. He recently recovered from thyroid cancer and a surgery requiring a long recovery that caused multiple shows to be cancelled in 2016. 

Lauper began her career in the early 80s and is most well known for her songs “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “True Colors.” In 2013, she won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for her composition work on the music for the show “Kinky Boots.” 

This will be the first show for the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater where attendees will have to follow the new clear bag policy that was implemented on July 5. According to the amphitheater’s Facebook page, clutches, small purses and wallets smaller than 6 1/2-by-7 1/2 inches are allowed as are clear plastic reusable bags smaller than one gallon. Clear totes smaller than 12-by-12-by-8 inches are also allowed as long the only have a logo on one side and items inside are loose. 

Tickets for Sunday’s concert can be purchased at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater box office or online at ticketmaster.com. Ticket prices range from $20 to $144.
