Volleyball falls to Ole Miss on the road

After losing in straight sets to Georgia on Friday night, Alabama’s volleyball team got off to a better start on Sunday afternoon against Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss. It won the first set 25-18, however the Rebels won the next three sets to take the match, 21-25, 24-26 and 22-25.

With the loss, Alabama (11-4) fell to 0-2 in SEC play. Ole Miss (9-5) won it’s first game in SEC play, bringing them to 1-1.

Sophomores Ginger Perinar and Hayley McSparin led Alabama with 13 kills a piece and freshman Christine Jarman was not far behind with her 12 kills. Junior Quincey Gary led Alabama’s defense with 22 digs and freshman setter Meghan Neelon collected her third double-double of the season with 40 assists and 15 digs.

The Crimson Tide jumped out to a 8-3 lead in the first set and expanded it’s lead to as much as seven points. Alabama closed out the set on a 5-2 run to pull ahead early.

Although Alabama lost the next three sets, they competed in every set. The second set had the biggest score differential, with Ole Miss winning the set by four points.

Alabama returns home for it’s next match on Wednesday to host Arkansas (11-3, 1-1 SEC) at 7 p.m. at Foster Auditorium. The Crimson Tide will host Missouri (8-7, 1-1 SEC) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
