Alabama basketball dominated No.5 Texas A&M, 79-57, in Coleman Coliseum on Saturday night. The win was Alabama’s first over an AP top-5 team since the team beat Stanford in the NCAA tournament in 2004.

Alabama moves to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in SEC play.

Freshman guard John Petty led the way for Alabama, scoring 18 points. Petty connected on 5-of-9 three pointers. Alabama shot 7-of-23 from three for the game. Fellow freshman guard Collin Sexton had 16 points, while junior guard Dazon Ingram also had 16 points.

Down low, junior forward Donta Hall finished with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting.

Alabama’s defense was a major reason why Alabama defeated the Aggies. The Crimson Tide held Texas A&M to just 30 percent shooting overall, and 9.5 percent shooting from three. Alabama also forced 11 turnovers in the win.

This is the second-straight time that Alabama has beaten a ranked Texas A&M team in Coleman Coliseum. In 2015, the Crimson Tide beat No. 15 Texas A&M, 63-62. Alabama will face Vanderbilt on Jan. 2.
