UPDATED: Tornado watch issued for Tuscaloosa County

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Tuscaloosa County until 11 p.m. Monday night. 

The University will maintain normal operations for now, and if a warning is issued the North Campus Storm Shelter, East Campus Storm Shelter and the Magnolia Parking Deck are available to all students, faculty and staff on campus. The Magnolia Parking Deck is open to pets and their owners. 

According to the announcement from the National Weather Service, “a more significant threat of severe storms, including strong tornadoes, is expected late this afternoon and tonight as a front moves through the area.”

UPDATE (5:18 p.m., 03/19/2018): According to an email from the University, normal operations will be suspended from 6:30 p.m. to midnight tonight due to possible severe weather. The following dining locations will remain open past 6:30:

Fresh Food Company will close at 8:30 p.m.

Burke Dining Hall will close at 9:00 p.m.

Julia’s Market in Tutwiler will close at midnight

Starbucks on Bryant will close at 8:30 p.m.

The food service in the Witt Center will close at 8:00 p.m.
