PRACTICE REPORT: Alabama begins spring season indoors

PRACTICE+REPORT%3A+Alabama+begins+spring+season+indoors

Alabama football held its first practice of the spring season on Tuesday. It was held indoors due to the threat of rain. Here are our observations from the first of 15 practices from now until A-Day:

  • As expected, quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa threw at the same time.
  • Damien Harris led the way as the running backs worked on quick, precise footwork and staying low as they made their cuts. A staffer stood behind two bars and leaned to imitate approaching tacklers, and the running backs had to cut the opposite way while staying below a bar.
  • For one round of passes from quarterbacks, wide receivers Tyrell Shavers and Jerry Jeudy were the first in the rotation. They mostly worked on quick slant routes while coaches shouted corrections to their foot placement.
  • Defensive backs ran downfield two-by-two, with one acting as the corner and the other acting as the receiver. The first pair was Shyheim Carter and Trevon Diggs, followed by Saivion Smith and Jared Mayden.
  • Offensive lineman Matt Womack, who started all 15 games at right tackle last season, wore a walking boot and a black non-contact jersey.
