University of Alabama men’s tennis fall to No. 6 Texas A&M Sunday afternoon.

The Crimson Tide drop to 1-5 in SEC play, and they’re still looking for their first win in program history against the Aggies.

In doubles, Texas A&M won the first two matches to secure the early point. The No.19 pair in the country defeated Alabama’s sophomore Edson Ortiz and junior Mazen Osama who are usually successful in their double matches.

When it was time for singles, the Aggies didn’t let off the gas pedal. They won the first three matches to clinch the victory.

The Crimson Tide will return to action March 30 at Ole Miss.

Along with the men, the women’s tennis team dropped its seventh straight SEC match to No. 10 South Carolina Saturday afternoon. The Crimson Tide fall to 13-10 on the season.

Coach Jenny Mainz has emphasized getting off to a strong start which means winning the doubles point. However, that didn’t happen on Saturday. South Carolina won two matches in doubles giving them the early 1-0 advantage.

In singles, South Carolina won the first match pushing their lead to 2-0. Alabama finally got on the board when junior Andie Daniell defeated No. 52 Ingrid Martins 6-1 and 6-3. That was the only point the Crimson Tide were going to put on the board as South Carolina won the next two matches giving them the 4-1 victory.

“I’m proud of the way our team competed today,” Mainz said. “We played with a lot of intensity and grit.  After losing a tough doubles point, our team rallied back and got their teeth into this match.  We certainly put ourselves in a position to take this match”.

Up next for the women is No. 9 Georgia March 29.
