Alabama soccer wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 1-0 victory on the road against DePaul on Sunday afternoon. The Crimson Tide improved to 6-3-1 on the year thanks to a 74th minute goal scored and assisted by two of Alabama’s own Illinois natives.

After a goalless first half, senior forward Abbie Boswell of Woodridge, Illinois, connected with Emma Thomson of Park Ridge, Illinois, who slotted home her header from the right side for the game’s lone score.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alex Plavin put together another big shift between the sticks for Alabama, finishing the match with five saves after being put under a large amount of pressure over the final 10 minutes. Her efforts ensured the win and the clean sheet for the Crimson Tide.

Alabama outshot the Blue Demons 15-13 on the day, placing seven of its shots on target. DePaul placed five of its shots on frame and attempted five corner kicks.

“Great response from our team after a tough loss on Thursday night,” said head coach Wes Hart in a press release. “That was not an easy win. DePaul is a very good team, especially at home. Once again, our depth paid off. We had some very good contributions from players off the bench, including the game winning goal from Emma Thomson.  We will certainly enjoy this win for the next few hours and then our focus shifts to Vanderbilt.”

Alabama will resume SEC play when it travels to Nashville to face Vanderbilt on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
