The Alabama women’s basketball team welcomed fans to a new season starting with Tide Tipoff on Monday night. The event is the fourth of its kind and was presented by the SupeStore. It was held in Coleman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide women were the first on the floor to get the night going.

The women squared off in a 12-minute crimson verse white scrimmage, which did not disappoint. The game started with a Jordan Lewis three from beyond the arch. The game was fast paced and very physical. In the end, the Crimson team came away with the win 22-6.

“We had a great crowd tonight for a Monday night,” coach Kristy Curry said. “I’m really excited to see so many folks in the stands. There was a lot of excitement. Tonight, was great for our team and for the fact that we got to put our uniforms on and lace our shoes up to play in a real game-like environment. We have a big freshmen class, which is always a positive.

“I saw a little bit of jitters and nerves, but I absolutely love the energy of this team. I love our veterans, and I love our newcomers. We just have a great mix of the old and the new that brings an awful lot of energy. This is the most energetic team I have had at Alabama, and I’m excited about their potential.”

Alabama is a very young team heading into the season, only bringing back a duo of seniors which will play an important role heading into the season.

“Everyone talks about our youth and we truly do have only two seniors,” Curry said. “At the end of the day they just bring a lot of experience to, so I like what they did in the offseason, and I love the energy our new kids bring. They are just wide-eyed and energetic.”

The Alabama Crimson Tide will get its first look at how the team is shaping up on Sunday when it plays Faulkner University in an exhibition match-up.
