Katie Buhai was recently crowned the 2018 homecoming queen this past weekend for The University of Alabama.

Buhai, a senior majoring in elementary education, was sponsored by Kappa Delta Sorority as she competed against seven other homecoming court candidates throughout the week and campaigned on campus, all while highlighting her platform, Child Abuse Prevention Services of Tuscaloosa, Inc.

Now that Buhai holds the homecoming queen title, she plans to produce more fundraisers for the CAPS program.

“I plan on creating additional fundraisers for CAPS in the community and putting a food truck percentage day,” Buhai said. “I just think homecoming is an incredible opportunity for the campus to get involved with a cause, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to promote CAPS in this way.”

Allyson Lacoste, Buhai’s co-campaign manager and a senior majoring in civil engineering, said she loved getting to be apart of her friend’s homecoming queen experience.

“I truly had so much fun campaigning with Katie all week,” Lacoste said. “It was beautiful to see how passionate she is about her platform, CAPS. I just loved getting to share with the rest of the campus truly what a wonderful friend she is and what a genuine person she is.”
