Alabama women’s basketball saw its first action of the year against Faulkner University in an exhibition game in Coleman Coliseum on Sunday night.

“I thought today was exactly what we needed this time of year,” head coach Kristy Curry said in a press release. “I feel like today makes us a whole lot better. We wanted to play two exhibitions this season instead of a scrimmage and an exhibition, to put us in a position to put our jerseys on and have a real game-like environment. To have five players in double figures and to rebound the ball the way we did was a great start for us.”

Leading the Crimson Tide was junior Cierra Johnson who had 15 points, six assists, and six rebounds along with freshman Allie Craig Cruce who also added 15 points. Among the rest of the scorers was junior Jasmine Walker with 14, junior Ashley Knight and freshman De’Sha Benjamin who both tallied 10 points each.

Alabama started fast totaling a score of 30-11 ten minutes into the game. From there, the Crimson Tide didn’t let up. At halftime, it was 50-21. Throughout the second half, the Tide extended its lead to 78-31 heading into the final period. Alabama outscored the Lady Eagles 22-13 in the fourth quarter cruising to a 100-44 victory.

The Crimson Tide shot 52 percent going 38-of-73 from the floor, holding Faulkner to just 29 percent going 16-of-54 in the game. Alabama scored 31 points off of Faulkner’s 26 turnovers. The Tide’s bench was a significant contributor in the victory outscoring the Lady Eagles bench 50-23.

Alabama will be back in action Thursday, Nov. 1 when Mississippi College comes to Tuscaloosa for the second exhibition of the season. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum.
