    Today’s game pivitol for Tide’s NCAA tourney hopes

    A week ago, when the Crimson Tide was 11-2 in SEC play, Alabama was sitting pretty for the NCAA Tournament.

    Two games and two losses later, the Tide is on the outside looking in, and today’s regular-season finale against Georgia could end up being the difference when the selection committee meets in eight days. ESPN’s Joe Lunardi currently has Alabama as his first team out of the tournament.

    Georgia, although in better shape than Alabama, is also on the bubble, making the potential atmosphere in Coleman Coliseum the greatest its been all season. Here are some interesting facts about the game.

     

    – The Tide still holds a perfect 15-0 record at home this season, one of 17 teams with an undefeated home record.

    – Georgia is undefeated against the SEC West this season.

    – UA’s defense is still top-10 in the nation. Holding opponents to 58.9 points per game ranks seventh in the country.

    – Georgia is 4-3 in SEC road games this season.

    – Alabama has held opponents to 0.86 points per possession this season, tied for best in the nation.

    – Anthony Grant and Mark Fox have started to turn both of their respective programs around in their second year at the helm.

    – Phillip Pearson returns to Coleman Coliseum as a Georgia assistant for the first time since being the interm head coach for the Crimson Tide two years ago.
