Alabama freshman running back Trey Sanders suffered a foot injury on the last play of the team’s practice on Thursday and will miss the entire season, according to a report from AL.com’s Matt Zenitz.

Coach Nick Saban and offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian had both praised Sanders’ short time in fall camp, with Saban acknowledging that the team has previously relied on contributions from freshman running backs during his tenure.

Sanders’ high school coach at IMG Academy, Kevin Wright, told The Crimson White he thought Sanders was well-prepared to see the field as a true freshman.

“You talk about being an instinctive runner. Trey obviously is,” Wright said. “But to be great when the ball’s not in your hands and to be able to share carries, be unselfish, all those things… I think he’s ready. He’s been prepared for conceptually how that works.”

Sanders’ injury leaves the Crimson Tide with just four scholarship running backs, including fellow true freshman Keilan Robinson.
