Starting today, Nov. 15, Tuscaloosa residents can pay off city parking tickets by donating to Toys for Tots, a program that donates toys to children in need during the holiday season.

This will only concern tickets issued due to the violation of the two-hour time limit in certain parking areas downtown and does not cover UA tickets. Heightened violations, such as handicap or fire zone parking, do not qualify.

One toy valued at $10 will cover a singular $15 parking ticket. Two $15 tickets can be satisfied by a toy worth $20 or more.

The toys will be collected at the Tuscaloosa Municipal Court, located at 2122 6th St.. They will be accepted from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15, and should include a receipt or price tag indicating the value.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox, along with the rest of the City Council, approved the resolution on Oct. 22.

“Toys for Tots donations in lieu of parking tickets is a great way we can be innovative in our community and make a difference,” Maddox said in a press release.
