Student dies in car accident

On April 2, Ashton Christine Alford, a sophomore majoring in dance,

died in a car accident. Alford was a member of the Phi Mu sorority.

“She was the kindest and most unique person in the entire world,” lifelong friend Cayla Jacobson said. “She had a smile that could light up the room.”

As friends and family mourn Alford’s unexpected death, they recall the good times they had with her.

“There was never a dull moment with Ashton,” her friend Chris Clark, a sophomore majoring in psychology, said. “She kept things lighthearted and was always fun to be around. It was hard not to laugh being around her because of her making jokes all the time.”

Clark has known Alford since the sixth grade and attended school with her at St. George’s Independent School in Memphis, Tenn.

Although she was only in her second year at the University, Alford had already made plans for her future.

“She wanted to go to law school and become successful. She wanted to still see the world,” Jacobson said.

The funeral will take place tomorrow at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis.
