Spring 2010 SGA Election Information

New Statement of Candidacy/Statement of Intent forms for SGA Executive Offices and SGA Senate are now posted on-line at vote.ua.edu and sga.ua.edu. The deadline to submit forms for the preliminary campaign period is Monday, February 8th. Students can only speak to registered student organizations after being certified to run during the preliminary campaign period.

Spring 2010 SGA Elections will be held on Tuesday, March 9th from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm on-line via mybama.ua.edu

Tickets available for scholarship ball

Each year the Lambda Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., hosts a scholarship ball to recognize the academic achievements of young women on this campus. This year’s ball will be held Feb. 7 at 4 p.m. in the Bryant Conference Center. The chapter is selling tickets at the Ferguson Center through Tuesday.

Former ‘Apprentice’ contestant speaks on campus

On Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m., Kwame Jackson from Donald Trump’s ‘Apprentice’ will participate in a Brown Bag Lecture in Ferguson 305. He will discuss his work on the Apprentice, what he is doing now and diversity on Wall Street.

Capstone Hero award nominations being accepted

In March, the University will celebrate the fifth annual week of events celebrating the ideals of the Capstone Creed. As part of this week of events each year, we honor individuals and/or organizations whose lives and contributions to life at the Capstone echo the values espoused in the Creed. These honors come in the form of a special award called the “Capstone Hero” award.

Nominations for this award are available at leadership.ua.edu and will be accepted through February 12. UA students, faculty and staff, friends and community members are invited to submit nomination(s) for individuals or groups who serve as living examples that inspire and challenge us as a community to live up to the principles of integrity within the Capstone Creed. Nominations must be turned in to the Office of Student Involvement and Leadership (355 Ferguson Center) or emailed to [email protected] by 4pm on February 12.

International business event planned for Thursday

The Society of Global MBAs, The International Engineering Society, National Society of Black Engineers, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers is hosting a joint event on Thursday at 6:30 PM in Bidgood Room 34. The event consists of a panel of international students from Hong Kong, China, Pakistan, Mexico, Russia, Turkey, Vietnam, Ukraine, India and Jamaica. Together, they will talk about cultural differences between their countries and the United States and how business is conducted in their countries.

Judicial Board applications available

SGA Judicial Board applications are due Feb. 9. Submitted applications are subject to a blind review. Selected applicants will be interviewed the week of Feb. 22-26. Applications can be found at the SGA Office in the Ferguson Center or at the Judicial Affairs Office in Burke. Applications can also be found online at www.sga.ua.edu or www.ja.ua.edu.
