Tide notches another 197-plus to top Wildcats

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Powered by the fourth highest vault total in school history, the No. 2 Alabama gymnastics team beat No. 12 Kentucky in Memorial Coliseum, 197.225-195.650.

The Crimson Tide scored a 49.65 on the vault, its highest total since 2004 and its second highest vault score ever during the regular season. It was Alabama’s fourth 197-plus score of the year, the most in the nation this season.

Senior Morgan Dennis led the way with a 9.975 on the vault and a 39.55 in the all-around. On the uneven bars sophomore Ashley Priess and junior Kayla Hoffman posted the meet’s top scores with matching 9.875s. Dennis and Priess tied for top honors on the balance beam with 9.9s, and Dennis won the floor exercise with another 9.9.

In addition to its 49.65 on the vault, the Tide tallied a 49.2 on the uneven bars, a 49.075 on the floor exercise and a 49.3 to close the meet out on the balance beam. Alabama goes to 8-1 overall on the season and 5-1 in Southeastern Conference competition, while Kentucky falls to 4-6, 1-5 in the SEC.

The Tide has just two dual meets left this season, at No. 1 Oklahoma Friday and senior night on March 19 against Michigan in Coleman Coliseum.
