Due to the University’s annual Honors Day, all classes will be dismissed on Friday, April 7. However, all university offices will remain open.

WHO: Anyone is welcome to attend the ceremonies this upcoming Friday. The top individual honor awards for scholarship, leadership and service were recognized on March 23; they will once again be recognized this week. Outstanding awards will also be presented to students from each class.

WHAT: Awards such as the William P. Bloom Award, the Judy Bonner Presidential Medallion Prize, the John F. Ramsey Award and the Dr. Catherine J. Randall Award were among the ones already given to students and faculty. However, The Mortar Board, Blue Key National Honors Society, Omicron Kappa Delta and the Anderson Society will induct their new members on Friday.

The Tapping of the Mounds Ceremony is put on by the Division of Student Life. Each respected college is responsible for their own celebration of Honors Day.

WHERE: The morning ceremonies will take place in Graves Hall. The Tapping on the Mounds Ceremony will be at the mound on the west side of the Quad, and the list of recipients is not released until then.

WHEN: The events held this Friday will be the highlight of Honors Week.

9 a.m. – Recognition of Undergraduate Honor Graduates
9:30–10:30 a.m. – Reception
10:30 a.m. – Recognition of College-Wide Awards
1:30 p.m. – Tapping on the Mounds Ceremony

WHY: “Honors Day is an opportunity to recognize excellence in scholarship and leadership among our students, faculty and staff,” said Kevin Whitaker, UA Executive Vice President and Provost. “It’s the culmination of Honors Week, which, in addition to celebrating scholarly success, provides an annual reaffirmation of our mission of providing a premier educational experience.”
