Project Rebound offers counseling

If the April 2011 tornadoes had a massive, irreversible impact on your life, Project Rebound is here for you. Project Rebound has served our University this school year by helping the campus community recover from the deadly tornadoes that struck Tuscaloosa nine months ago.

The program is founded on the belief that simply talking to others can be a great way to combat the anxiety, depression and general negative change that have infiltrated so many of our lives as a result of the storms. By contacting Project Rebound, any student can talk to a graduate student who deeply cares about his or her campus community and would like to help it recover from the disaster in any way possible. These student crisis counselors would be honored to talk to you about your experiences and any feelings that you may have as a result of the disaster that struck our community.

If you had significant property damage as a result of the storms, these students can connect you with the resources to assist you in receiving your reimbursements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency if you have had any problems with a FEMA claim or have not filed a claim. Project Rebound Crisis Counselors can also refer students, faculty and staff to multiple resources across campus to address emotional, physical or behavioral challenges that may be affecting them in the wake of this horrible disaster.

Please feel free to contact Project Rebound at (205) 348-0025, or email Melanie T. Tucker, program director, at [email protected] or Michelle Tanner, lead counselor, at [email protected].

Nick Darby is a counselor for Project Rebound.
