Choruses combine to make Sacred Harmonies

This Sunday, a concert will be offered at the First United Methodist Church. The Prentice Concert Chorale and the Shelton State Singers are combining to put on “Sacred Harmonies: A Concert of Sacred Music.”

Sacred Harmonies will consist of performances of passages from Revelations, Matthew, and the Psalms. Both groups, under the direction of Leslie Poss and Glinda Blackshear, will be pairing them with hymn text and dramatic melodies.

The Prentice Concert Chorale’s namesake is Frederick Prentice, who was the first conductor of the Prentice Concert Chorale and a professor at UA.

Glinda Blackshear formed the Shelton State Singers more than 30 years ago. A change in events prompted Shelton State’s participation in the event. The Shelton State Singers were planning to perform at Carnegie Hall in June, but due to economic concerns, Shelton State decided to collaborate with The Prentice Concert Chorale.

Tickets can be bought at the door and are $5 for children and $10 for adults.
