Students received an email Tuesday afternoon notifying them that both The University of Alabama campus and Tuscaloosa County at large are under a tornado watch until 6 p.m.

“Thunderstorms, damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are possible,” the email said.

Students are encouraged to have a plan for if severe weather occurs, as the email said it can develop quickly and without warning.

“If a tornado warning is issued, you should avoid traveling and seek shelter immediately,” the email said. “If you are not able to make it to one of our tornado shelters, please go to the lowest level of the nearest building until you are notified the warning is over.”

Members of the UA community should stay tuned to local weather sources and familiarize themselves with the University’s severe weather guidelines.

Those guidelines can be found at https://ready.ua.edu/severe-weather-guidelines.

UPDATE:

According to UANews, the tornado watch issued that was issued until 6 p.m. has been cancelled for the West Alabama area, including Tuscaloosa.

The University advises students to remain aware of the weather throughout the evening.
