PRACTICE REPORT: Tua Tagovailoa returns two days after injuring thumb

PRACTICE+REPORT%3A+Tua+Tagovailoa+returns+two+days+after+injuring+thumb

Unlike Alabama football’s first practice of the spring on Tuesday, the sun cracked through the clouds for the team’s second practice. Players participated in individual drills outdoors during the media viewing period. Here are our observations:

  • Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa returned to practice after injuring his thumb on Tuesday, but did not participate in individual drills.
  • Coaches shouted “Finish!” while the offensive linemen sprang up from under a covering to block other linemen who were holding pads. Jonah Williams, Ross Pierschbacher, Lester Cotton, and Jedrick Wills were in the first set of the rotation.
  • The inside linebackers, led by Mack Wilson and Dylan Moses, pushed on a blocking device. Coaches instructed them to “smash the white”, the top part of the device. Former Alabama linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton watched from the sideline.
  • Christian Miller, Jamey Mosley, and Terrell Lewis led the outside linebackers in a drill where they high-stepped between pads that were set in a circle. They later moved on to a drill where they had to fend off blocks from coaches who were holding pads.
  • The defensive backs practiced backpedaling and breaking on outside routes. Coaches threw a ball about 20 yards downfield and they practiced high-pointing the ball as well. Xavier McKinney and Deionte Thompson were the first to rotate through that drill.
