Another doubleheader for Alabama men’s tennis resulted in two more victories to put its record at 4-0 to start the season.

“It was a challenging weekend mentally, emotionally, and physically for the guys,” head coach George Husack said. “Mentally they were dead focused. Physically, they were very strong down the stretch, thanks to our fitness coach. We had a superb finish tonight.”

The Crimson Tide began its day against Charlotte. It was a tough test for Alabama as Charlotte closed its three point deficit to just one with the final two singles matches going to a third set. Despite this, Alabama secured the final point to win 4-2.

“Charlotte is a great team and we expected a tough match, but it didn’t really hit us until we got out on the court,” said sophomore Sam Fischer. “Pressure was on us during that match, but we did our jobs and got the momentum back on our side.”

“They made us bring our best out from the first point to the very last point,” Junior Edson Ortiz said.

In the final match of the weekend, Alabama blanked North Alabama by a score of 7-0 and swept all of its singles matches in straight sets.

“Tonight we had to come back and respond with guys that were tired and they did it,” Husack said. “Overall, I’m really happy and very excited for the road ahead.”

Even though the team is off to a fast start, Ortiz said the team needs to stay focused in practice to prepare for the tough season that is in front of them.

“We need to practice like we want to play our matches,” Ortiz said. “We cannot be joking around just because we beat Michigan or Charlotte. These matches should be a wake up call to us because it shows that we can be a great program.”

The Crimson Tide will be back in action on Friday against Northwestern in the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.
